Health is not a fad. It’s not available with unresearched remedies promising a quick change, but with sound guidance on well-researched, evidence-based methods. Current 21st-century lifestyles, culture and environment, as well as the prevalence of incorrect health information in media, all make it very hard for most to be healthy. These everyday pressures give rise to a range of emotions and behaviours that can lead to lifestyle choices known to contribute to the development of chronic, preventable lifestyle-related disease. These diseases are ever increasing in number and are leading to many feeling tired, unwell and unhappy. 78% of consults in general practice are regarding disease and illness with a root cause in lifestyle choices
There are multiple factors which can lead to disease and illness. Some of which are genetic and some are caused by our environment which unfortunately we have little control over. However, some important factors are in our control. If these are not managed correctly this can lead to the development and progression of disease and illness.
If we tackle these causes that can be modified then we can greatly reduce the risk of disease or progression of disease.
Lifestyle Medicine is an established evidenced-based approach that focuses on improving the health and wellbeing of individuals. It incorporates an understanding and appreciation of the physical, emotional, environmental and social causes of disease. Lifestyle Medicine focuses on managing the modifiable “causes of the causes” to identify specific individual evidenced-based interventions addressing the direct “causes” of chronic diseases.
Lifestyle Medicine focuses on managing the modifiable causes of disease and uses specific individual evidenced-based intervention to address them leading to a reduced risk of illness, reduced progression of disease, sometimes reversal of disease as well as increased fulfilment, wellbeing and overall health.
